This page contains monster names, races, and elemental strengths and weaknesses as applicable. Changes between the original and EasyType are also noted, including modifications to the combat script, even though behavior is otherwise generally not included here.
Keep in mind that absorption only has its full effectiveness against magic. When faced with an elemental physical attack, all it does is halve attack power, just like ordinary resistance. That at least means an inappropriate weapon choice won't heal enemies unless you're trying to drain life from the Undead.
Enemies with the Boss flag (noted under Race) are granted immunity to status effects from weapon attacks. A number of spells and item effects will also fail automatically when targeting them, as noted in the information for those. This includes virtually all status magic, making bosses effectively immune to most negative status effects under normal circumstances. However, status attacks from enemy skills may work as long as those skills don't automatically fail against bosses. For example, reflecting Dimension 9 (Disrupt) can insta-kill an Assault Door (TrapDoor).
Behavioral changes between the Japanese and English versions are—at least for now—generally not noted, simply because I don't have a good reference for English version monster scripts, though I would like to add that information eventually. Monster stats and the changes to them are also not noted here, though this time it's more a matter of sheer scope, given that it's a lot of information to begin with, and the EasyType modifies nearly all of it on top of that. Similarly, monster drops, and the extensive changes to those in the English and EasyType versions due in large part to reworking the item list, are also not noted here unless I find something particularly noteworthy.
That said, there are several general trends in the changes to item drops. Status curing items dropped in the original Japanese version, like the Antidote and Maiden's Kiss, are usually replaced by the Panacea (Heal) in the English and EasyType versions. Otherwise, where an item dropped in the original is one that's dummied out in the other versions, it's most often replaced with another copy of something else that the monster could drop all along, usually from an adjacent rarity class (for example, if the semi-rare drop was an item that was dummied out, it was usually replaced with either the semi-common drop or the rare one).
The English and EasyType versions have nearly identical item drops, other than the EasyType's strange obsession with making unusual numbers of enemies drop a Tome of Secret Arts with moderate frequency. Most other exceptions involve the Silver Apple and Gold Apple being available in the EasyType but not the English version. There are, however, three truly inexplicable cases of monsters having good drops in the original Japanese version, still-good (though different) drops in the EasyType, yet nothing other than largely the worthless Cure1 (Potion) as drops in the English version. Baffling. The affected monsters, incidentally, are the Mecha Dragon (D.Machin), the Gold Dragon (King-Ryu), and the Thunder Dragon (Clapper). The EasyType also makes an adjustment to the Behemoth's drops not found in any other version.
Speaking of monster drops, most enemies have a 15/256 chance (about 5.9%) of dropping an item. The Iron Cavalry has a 75/256 chance (about 29.3%) instead (and the EasyType also raises the drop rate for the Pudding Princess (PinkPuff) to this value). Lugae and the developers Katsuhisa Higuchi, Hiromi Nakada, Tetsuya Takahashi always drop their item (but cannot be stolen from). However, 85 of the 224 monsters on the list will never drop anything at all; these can all be stolen from but (except Zeromus) will give only a Potion (Cure1). When a monster does drop an item, that item has a 32/64 (50%) chance of being the first (common) item on the list, a 20/64 (31.25%) chance of being the second (semi-common), an 11/64 (about 17.19%) chance of being the third (semi-rare), and only a 1/64 (about 1.56%) chance of being the fourth (rare) item.
As a result, here are the overall chances of getting each class of item from typical monsters. Common = 480 in 16,384 (roughly 1 per 34 kills). Semi-common = 300 in 16,384 (roughly 1 per 55 kills). Semi-rare = 165 in 16,384 (roughly 1 per 99 kills). Rare = 15 in 16,384 (roughly 1 per 1,092 kills). Note that random chance can be uncooperative; racking up the listed number of average kills per drop only gives roughly a 63% chance of getting at least one (which means a 37% chance of none). To be 95% sure of getting one, you'll need to kill about three times that many. Happy farming!
Holy is your friend, as it should be. Many enemies are weak against this attack trait, while other than a few early bosses and the invulnerable forms of Zeromus, the only things with any resistance to it are the Scarmiglione, Rubicante, and Cagnazzo phases of the Elite Four group battle (each of which has a single weakness and absorbs every other trait), and the Blue Dragon (which absorbs every trait, period). Conversely, no monsters other than two early bosses are weak against Dark, while many monsters, mostly the undead, resist it.

0 ~ 31 | |||

The Goblin has the Goblin summon item as its rarest drop. |

Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to せきかとかげ (石化とかげ , Petrifying Lizard). One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop. It's a definite improvement over the usual Gold Needles, or the Cure1 (Potion) drops in the English version. |
|||
2 | ダイブイーグル | Dive Eagle | Eagle |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Projectile
The Dive Eagle has the Cockatrice summon item as its rarest drop in the original Japanese version only. The English and EasyType versions replace it, as well as the semi-common and semi-rare Gold Needle drops, with Phoenix Tails. |

|||
8 | ミニマジシャン | Mini Magician | TinyMage |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to ちびまほうつかい (ちび魔法使い), with essentially the same meaning. The Mini Magician has a Silver Bracelet as its semi-common drop, so you can get them a bit early with some luck. It also has a Rod as a common drop, which is largely useless, though you can use a glitch in Steal to equip it on unlikely characters if you find that amusing. |
|||

The EasyType changes the name to すなおとこ (砂男, Sand Man). |

Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop, though it loses a Silver Apple rare drop. At least it's still better than the English version's Heal (Panacea) rare drop, which just duplicates the semi-rare drop. |
|||
13 | ギガントード | Gigan Toad | CaveToad |
Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Weak: Ice

|||
18 | オーガニトード | Ogrenitoad | Mad Toad |

Race: Slime | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Flame

25 | くろとかげ | Black Lizard | BlackLiz |
Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Weak: Ice
(黒とかげ) The Black Lizard has the Break Blade as its rare drop, though you may be better off avoiding that. All the other drops are Medusa Arrows, making it an excellent source of those, especially with Edge in the party to steal them. |
|||
26 | アダマンタイマイ | Adamantoise | Turtle |
Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Ice
タイマイ as 玳瑁 is a tortoise shell, so what seems to have become the standard English translation works well enough. |
|||
27 | ドモボーイ | Domovoi | Imp Cap. |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
A domovoi is a house spirit from Slavic lore. The EasyType changes the name to ゴブリンキャップ (Goblin Cap[tain]), paralleling the English version. |
|||
28 | パープルババロア | Purple Bavarois | Slime |
Race: Slime | Resist: (none) | Weak: Flame
Bavarois is perhaps better known as bavarian cream. |

(バロン兵) |
|||
30 | ジェネラル | General | Officer |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
31 | ガトリンガ | Gatlinger | Needler |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to トゲねずみ (Needle Rat). One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop. It's a definite improvement over the usual Gold Needles, or the Cure1 (Potion) drops in the English version. |
|||
32 ~ 63 | |||
32 | リルマーダー | Lil' Murder | Tricker |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Thunder
The Lil' Murder has the Goblin summon item as its rarest drop. The EasyType changes the name to あまのじゃく (天邪鬼, amanojaku), a tempter creature from Japanese mythology. It also drastically modifies the monster itself, changing the weakness from Thunder to Flame, adding Murmur (inflicts Pig status) as a counter to (non-Flame) magic, using Fire 3 (Figa) instead of Haste when hit by magic matching its weakness, and Fire 3 instead of Thundaga thereafter. |
|||
33 | デスビューティ | Death Beauty | Cannibal |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Flame
The EasyType changes the name to しょくじんばな (食人花, Cannibal Flower). Also, that's "cannibal" in the sense of eating human flesh, not its own kind. |
|||
34 | スピリット | Spirit | Spirit |
Race: Spirit | Absorb: Flame | Very weak: Holy
The EasyType changes the name to あだしび. As far as I can tell, that's 化し火, using a perplexingly obscure reading of 化 (whatever happened to "easy"?), which roughly translates to "monster fire" and might refer to unrestful spirits of the dead. One of six monsters with the dubious Ring of Curses as its rare drop. |
|||
35 | スケルトン | Skeleton | Skelton |
Race: Undead | Resist: Dark | Very weak: Flame Holy
36 | コカトリス | Cockatrice | Cocktric |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Projectile
The Cockatrice has the Cockatrice summon item as its rarest drop in the original Japanese version only. The English and EasyType versions replace it, as well as the semi-common and semi-rare Gold Needle drops, with Phoenix Tails. |
|||
37 | ガーゴイル | Gargoyle | Gargoyle |
Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Holy Projectile
38 | ルドランベビー | Rudran Baby | Roc Baby |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Projectile
Compare to monster #097, below. The English version managed to be consistent here. The EasyType changes the name to イーグル (Eagle), losing the connection. The Rudran Baby has the Cockatrice summon item as its rarest drop in the original Japanese version only. The English and EasyType versions replace it, as well as the semi-common and semi-rare Gold Needle drops, with Phoenix Tails. |
|||
39 | ベルフェゴール | Belphegor | Hooligan |
Race: Spirit | Resist: (none) | Weak: Holy Projectile
The EasyType changes the name to ガンガーゴイル (Ganga Goyle). One of six monsters with the dubious Ring of Curses as its rare drop. |
|||

Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Projectile
The EasyType changes the name to ヘルコンドル (Hell Condor). One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop, though it loses a Silver Apple rare drop. The English version just duplicates the semi-rare Cabin (Cottage) in the rare slot. |
|||
41 | シーポッツ | Sea Pots | WaterBug |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Thunder
I'm ambivalent about this name, though I'm also not sure what else it could be. The EasyType changes the name to きょだいばいきん (巨大ばい菌, Giant Bacteria). |
|||
42 | アリゲイター | Alligator | Aligator |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Ice
One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop, though it loses a Silver Apple rare drop. At least it's still better than the English version's Cure2 (High Potion) rare drop, which just duplicates the semi-rare drop. |
|||
43 | スプラッシャー | Splasher | Piranha |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Thunder
The EasyType changes the name to たいほううお (大砲魚, Cannon Fish). |

(バロン海兵) |
|||
45 | キャプテン | Captain | General |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
46 | ソウル | Soul | Soul |
Race: Spirit | Absorb: Flame | Very weak: Holy
The EasyType changes the name to おにび (鬼火, Will-o'-the-Wisp). One of six monsters with the dubious Ring of Curses as its rare drop. |
|||
47 | ブラッディボーン | Bloody Bone | Red Bone |
Race: Undead | Resist: Dark | Weak: Flame Holy
The EasyType changes the name to がいこつせんし (骸骨戦士, Skeleton Fighter). It also increases the weaknesses to Very weak. |
|||
48 | グール | Ghoul | Ghoul |
Race: Undead | Immune: Dark | Weak: Flame Holy
49 | スカルジャー | Skuldier | Skull |
Race: Undead | Resist: Dark | Very weak: Flame Holy
A mashup of "skull" and "soldier". The EasyType changes the name to どくろせんし (どくろ戦士, Skull Fighter). |
|||
50 | レブナント | Revenant | Revenant |
Race: Undead | Immune: Dark | Weak: Flame Holy
The EasyType changes the name to キラーゾンビ (Killer Zombie). |
|||
51 | ドラキュレディ | Draculady | VampGirl |
Race: Undead | Absorb: Thunder | Very weak: Flame Holy
52 | エーラパトラ | Elapatra | CaveNaga |

Elapatra is the name of a naga from Indian mythology. The EasyType changes the name to へびあくま (蛇悪魔, Snake Demon). |
|||
53 | スカルドラゴン | Skull Dragon | D.Bone |
Race: Undead Dragon | Immune: Dark | Weak: Flame
One of six monsters with the dubious Ring of Curses as its rare drop. Its other drops are all Red Fangs in the original Japanese version, but are reduced to Potions (Cure1) in the English and EasyType versions. |
|||
54 | らいぎょ | Thunder Fish | ElecFish |
Race: (none) | Absorb: Thunder | Very weak: Projectile
(雷漁) |
|||
55 | ギガースゲイター | Gigas Gator | Crocdile |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Ice
One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop, though it loses a Silver Apple rare drop. At least it's still better than the English version's Cure2 (High Potion) rare drop, which just duplicates the semi-rare drop. |
|||
56 | ヒュドラ | Hydra | Hydra |
Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Weak: Thunder
The EasyType changes the name to ふたくびへび (双首蛇, Twinneck Snake). It also adds Ice as a second weakness. |
|||
57 | フラッドウォーム | Flood Worm | AquaWorm |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Thunder
One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop, though it loses a Silver Apple rare drop. At least it's still better than the English version's Heal (Panacea) rare drop, which just duplicates the semi-rare drop. |
|||
58 | バロンこのえへい | Baron Royal Guard | Guard |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(バロン近衛兵) |
|||
59 | ラミア | Lamia | Lamia |
Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The Lamia has a Lamia Harp as its common drop. It's normally useless at this point, though you can use a glitch in Steal to equip it on unlikely characters if you find that amusing. |
|||
60 | ヘルニードル | Hell Needle | StingRat |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to ツノねずみ (Horn Rat). One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop. It's a definite improvement over the usual Gold Needles, or the Cure1 (Potion) drops in the English version. |
|||
61 | ツインスネーク | Twin Snake | Python |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Ice Holy
The EasyType changes the name to そうとうじゃ (双頭蛇, Twinhead Snake). |
|||
62 | らいせい | Thunder Spirit | Grudger |
Race: (none) | Absorb: Thunder | Weak: Holy
(雷精) The EasyType changes the name to レディピーチ (Lady Peach). |
|||
63 | マインドフレア | Mindflayer | Mage |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The Mindflayer has the Mindflayer summon item as its rarest drop, and is the only enemy that can drop this item. The semi-common Unicorn Horn and semi-rare Gold Hourglass in the original Japanese version are replaced with High Potions (Cure2) in the English and EasyType versions. |
|||
64 ~ 95 | |||
64 | ナーガ | Naga | Naga |
Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to へびのせい (蛇の精, Snake Spirit). |
|||
65 | オーガ | Ogre | Ogre |
Race: Giant | Resist: (none) | Weak: Holy
The EasyType changes the name to あおおに (青鬼, Blue Oni). It's more green than blue, but the color 青 covers both, so that's not a big deal. One of three monsters that can drop a Giant's Bracer, but only as its rare drop. |
|||
66 | ケットシー | Cait Sith | Panther |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Holy
The EasyType changes the name to でんげきひょう (電撃豹 Electro Panther). The Cait Sith has a Cat Claw as its rare drop, giving you a small chance to get one early. |
|||
67 | ブラックナイト | Black Knight | SwordMan |
Race: Undead | Immune: Dark | Weak: Flame Holy
68 | ケンタウロナイト | Centaur Knight | Centaur |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to ばじんせんし (馬人戦士, Horse-Man Fighter). While Googling suggests that 馬人 is the usual Chinese translation of "centaur", it's nonstandard in Japanese. |
|||
69 | ミスバンパイア | Miss Vampire | VampLady |
Race: Undead Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: Flame Holy
70 | マリオネイター | Marionetter | Marion |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to にんぎょうつかい (人形使い, Puppeteer). One of only three monsters in the original Japanese versions to drop a Tome of Secret Arts (as the rare item, naturally), it continues to drop them in the EasyType, though at no higher a rate than usual. The English version, in a typical pattern, replaces the rare drop with a duplicate of the semi-rare drop, in this case the Silence (Rune Staff), which is only available from this and two other monsters. The Marionetter has a Rune Bracelet as its semi-common drop, so you can get them a bit early with some luck. |
|||
71 | マリオン | Marion | Puppet |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Flame
The EasyType changes the name to いとにんぎょう (糸人形, String Puppet). I'd normally call that "Marionette", except that the EasyType actually uses マリオネット as the name for a different monster. Though it drops useful Scape Dolls when it drops anything in the original Japanese version, the Marion is reduced to supplying Potions (Cure1) in the Engish and EasyType versions. |
|||
72 | グルームウイング | Gloom Wing | GlomWing |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Projectile
The EasyType changes the name to きょだいが (巨大蛾, Giant Moth). It's understandable, given that they dummy out the items, that the English and EasyType versions change the semi-common Stardust and semi-rare Lunar Curtain to Ethers, matching the common drop. Less understandable is that they also replace the rare Artemis's Arrows with an Ether, considering that this item is not dummied out in either version. |
|||
73 | デスタネット | Deathtanet | FangShel |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Thunder
Presumably "death" + "castanet". |
|||
74 | マリード | Marid | Screamer |
Race: Giant Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
From Arabic folklore, a marid is a large and powerful djinn. The EasyType changes the name to レディチェリー (Lady Cherry). |
|||
75 | サタナイト | Satan Knight | Warrior |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
Properly, "satan" and "knight" should be mashed together, except that I can't come up with a way of doing that without losing the effect. The silent 'k' doesn't help. The EasyType changes the name to あくまのせんし (悪魔の戦士, Demon Warrior). |
|||
76 | アームドママル | Armed Mammal | Armadilo |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to いしのよろい (石の鎧, Stone Armor). One of four enemies with a Mithril Shield as its common drop. Normally no big deal, though using a glitch in Steal means you can equip it on Rydia (and other characters who can't normally have a shield). If you don't mind taking advantage of minor glitches, anyway. |
|||
77 | レディガーダー | Lady Guarder | EpeeGirl |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to アマゾネス (Amazoness). |
|||
78 | れいきし | Spirit Knight | BladeMan |
Race: Spirit | Resist: (none) | Weak: Holy
霊騎士, not 冷騎士, despite what the EasyType name seems to have assumed. Note the race and elemental traits, and that it uses no ice-based attacks. The EasyType changes the name to こおりのきし (氷の騎士, Ice Knight). |
|||
79 | ナーガラージャ | Naga Raja | HugeNaga |
Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
In an apparent oversight, a Naga Raja that starts combat in egg form can counterattack non-damaging magic without first hatching. Since all monsters that can appear as eggs react to damage (when unhatched) by hatching, and the Naga Raja is the only one of them that reacts to magic in general, this is not normally an issue for any other monsters. Some have reactions to being physically attacked, which could potentially trigger when unhatched, except that unless the attack misses completely (very rare), it inflicts at least a little bit of damage and therefore triggers the hatching reaction instead. The EasyType changes the name to へびのおう (蛇の王, Snake Lord), approximating the original name in a less exotic fashion. |
|||
80 | メデューサ | Medusa | Medusa |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The Medusa has the Break Blade as its rare drop, though you may be better off avoiding that. All the other drops are Medusa Arrows, making it an excellent source of those, especially with Edge in the party to steal them. |
|||
81 | サウルスゾンビー | Saurus Zombie | D.Fossil |
Race: Undead Dragon | Resist: Dark | Weak: Flame Holy
One of six monsters with the dubious Ring of Curses as its rare drop. Its other drops are all Red Fangs in the original Japanese version, but are reduced to Potions (Cure1) in the English and EasyType versions. |
|||
82 | マグマントータス | Magmantoise | Tortoise |
Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Weak: Ice
The EasyType changes the name to ファイアタートル (Fire Turtle). One of four enemies with a Mithril Shield as its common drop. Normally no big deal, though using a glitch in Steal means you can equip it on Rydia (and other characters who can't normally have a shield). If you don't mind taking advantage of minor glitches, anyway. |
|||
83 | インプ | Imp | Dummy |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
Unused monster. |
|||
84 | ドリームエビル | Dream Evil | Ghost |
Race: (none) | Absorb: Flame | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to まどいび (惑い火, Misleading Fire). One of six monsters with the dubious Ring of Curses as its rare drop. |
|||
85 | ボム | Bomb | Bomb |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
86 | ペイニーボム | Painy Bomb | GrayBomb |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to グレートボム (Great Bomb). |
|||
87 | キマイラ | Chimera | Chimera |
Race: (none) | Absorb: Flame Ice Thunder | Weak: (none)
88 | ヘルタートル | Hell Turtle | Carapace |
Race: Reptile | Absorb: Flame | Very weak: Ice
One of four enemies with a Mithril Shield as its common drop, and you can't abuse the Steal glitch here since these only appear in the Tower of Zot, before Edge has joined the party. |
|||
89 | アイアンドレス | Iron Dress | Ironback |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to てつのよろい (鉄の鎧, Iron Armor). One of four enemies with a Mithril Shield as its common drop. Normally no big deal, though using a glitch in Steal means you can equip it on Rydia (and other characters who can't normally have a shield). If you don't mind taking advantage of minor glitches, anyway. |
|||
90 | フレイムドッグ | Flame Dog | FlameDog |
Race: (none) | Absorb: Flame | Very weak: Ice
The EasyType changes the name to ほのおのけもの (炎の獣, Flame Beast). |
|||
91 | ゴルゴーン | Gorgon | Gorgon |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The Gorgon has the Break Blade as its rare drop, though you may be better off avoiding that. All the other drops are Medusa Arrows, making it an excellent source of those, especially with Edge in the party to steal them. |
|||
92 | ストーンゴーレム | Stone Golem | Stoneman |
Race: Giant | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Ice
The EasyType changes the name to いしきょじん (石巨人, Stone Giant). |
|||
93 | リリス | Lilith | Lilith |
Race: Undead Reptile | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Flame
The Lilith is both the only monster to drop the Lilith's Rod (as the rare drop, of course) and the only monster with an HP-increasing Silver Apple as a semi-rare, rather than rare, drop. Unfortunately, the English and EasyType replace both the Silver Apple and the common and semi-common Lilith's Kiss drops with Ethers, though they do at least keep the Lilith's Rod. |
|||
94 | マザーラミア | Mother Lamia | Q.Lamia |
Race: Reptile | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to ラミアクィーン (Lamia Queen). The Mother Lamia has a Lamia Harp as its common drop. It's normally useless at this point, though you can use a glitch in Steal to equip it on unlikely characters if you find that amusing. |
|||
95 | トーディトード | Toady Toad | TinyToad |
Race: Reptile Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: Ice
The EasyType changes the name to ミニフロッガー (Mini Frogger). |
|||
96 ~ 127 | |||
96 | モルズ | Molds | HugeCell |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to ふゆうかび (浮遊黴, Floating Mold). |
|||
97 | ルドラ | Rudra | Roc |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Projectile
One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop, though it loses a Silver Apple rare drop. The English version just duplicates the semi-rare Cabin (Cottage) in the rare slot. |
|||
98 | ソーサラー | Sorcerer | Sorceror |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to まほうつかい (魔法使い, Magician). The Sorcerer also has a Healing Staff as its common drop. It's normally useless at this point, though you can use a glitch in Steal to equip it on unlikely characters if you find that amusing. |
|||
99 | バーサオーガ | Berse[rk] Ogre | Mad Ogre |
Race: Giant Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to あかおに (赤鬼, Red Oni), which doesn't fit very well given that the monster is more blue than anything else, possibly leaning a bit toward violet, but certainly not red. One of three monsters that can drop a Giant's Bracer, if only as its rare drop. |
|||
100 | フラウドパペット | Fraud Puppet | EvilDoll |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to マリオネット (Marionette). As with the Marion, the English and EasyType versions make Fraud Puppets drop mere Potions (Cure1) instead of Scape Dolls. |
|||
101 | ブラッディバット | Bloody Bat | GiantBat |
Race: (none) | Absorb: Thunder | Weak: Flame Projectile
102 | アルケニー | Arachne | Arachne |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Ice Projectile
アラクネー is the standard rendition of Arachne. アルケニー seems to be a very common variant in Japanese games, though. The EasyType changes the name to タランチュラ (Tarantula). |
|||
103 | フレイムナイト | Flame Knight | FlameMan |
Race: (none) | Absorb: Flame | Weak: Ice
The EasyType changes the name to ほのおのせんし (炎の戦士, Flame Warrior). The Flame Knight has a Flame Spear as a common drop, an interesting weapon to equip on unlikely characters if you use a glitch in the Steal command. |
|||
104 | きかいほう | Mecha Cannon | Beamer |
Race: Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(機械砲) |
|||
105 | レメディボム | Remedy Bomb | Balloon |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Projectile
The EasyType changes the name to パイナップル (Pinapple). The Remedy Bomb has the Bomb summon item as its rarest drop. In the original Japanese version, its other drops are Bomb Fragment, Antarctic Wind, and Bomb Soul, but the English and EasyType versions replace all three of those with boring Potions (Cure1). |
|||
106 | ダークグラネイド | Dark Grenade | Grenade |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Projectile
The EasyType changes the name to グレネイド (Grenade). The Dark Grenade has the Bomb summon item as its rarest drop. In the original Japanese version, its other drops are Bomb Fragment, Antarctic Wind, and Bomb Soul, but the English and EasyType versions replace all three of those with boring Potions (Cure1). |
|||
107 | プレイグ | Plague | Plague |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: Projectile
108 | ラストアーム | Last Arm | Last Arm |
Race: Boss Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to さいしゅうへいき (最終兵器, Final Weapon), which is probably what "last arm" was intended to mean in the first place. It also modifies the attack script, alternating between Electromagnetic Field (inflicts Stop status) and Beam (reduces HP by 10% of max) after using Targeting instead of having Electromagnetic Field happen every time. One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop. Much better than the English version, which replaces the Alarm in every slot with a Cure1 (Potion). The EasyType replaces only the common drop with a Potion. |
|||
109 | クアール | Coeurl | BlackCat |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The Coeurl has a Cat Claw as its rare drop, giving you a small chance to get one a bit early. |
|||
110 | きかいりゅう | Mecha Dragon | D.Machin |
Race: Dragon | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(機械竜) The Mecha Dragon is one of only two enemies that can drop—as the rare item, of course—a Gold Apple. Unless you're playing the English version, in which case all four drops are replaced with a lousy Cure1 (Potion). The original version's drops are Wrath of the Gods, Gold Hourglass, Gold Headdress, and Gold Apple, all fairly good items, and even the EasyType has the decency to make the common, semi-common, and semi-rare items X-Potions. |
|||
111 | アラウネ | Alraune | Talantla |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Projectile
Leaving aside that an alraune (German for mandrake) is not at all a tarantula, you'd think they could at least make that a "Tarantla". The EasyType changes the name to くもおんな (蜘蛛女, Spider Woman), so apparently they missed the point too. Yes, it's a palette swap of the Arachne, a spider-woman monster. However, the colors chosen for this one (green and brown lower body and a floral blue skin tone) are suggestive of a plant, and the legs kind of look like roots. It may be a bit of a stretch, but they only had so many monster designs to work with. |
|||
112 | プラクティ | Practi[tioner] (?) | Gremlin |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: Flame
The EasyType changes the name to こあくま (小悪魔, Demonling). |
|||
113 | アンダグランダ | Undergrounder | Centpede |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to じしんむかで (地震むかで, Quake Centipede), sending a clearer message about what to expect from it. |
|||
114 | アビスウォーム | Abyss Worm | Red Worm |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Flame
The EasyType changes the name to ルナウォーム (Luna Worm). It also increases the weakness to Very weak. |
|||
115 | ブラッディレッド | Bloody Red | Red Eye |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Projectile
The EasyType changes the name to イビルアイ (Evil Eye). |
|||
116 | ミスリーダ | Misleader | Crawler |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak:
The EasyType changes the name to デスリーチ (Death Leech). |
|||
117 | ブリズリザード | Blizz Lizard | Ice Liz |
Race: Reptile | Absorb: Ice | Very weak: Flame
The EasyType changes the name to こおりとかげ (氷とかげ, Ice Lizard). |
|||
118 | ヘルフラッパー | Hell Flapper | RockMoth |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: Projectile
The EasyType changes the name to じごくのが (地獄の蛾, Hell Moth). |
|||
119 | エビルヘッド | Evil Head | Were Bat |
Race: (none) | Absorb: Thunder | Weak: Flame Projectile
The EasyType changes the name to キラーバット (Killer Bat). |
|||
120 | ブリーズビースト | Breeze Beast | IceBeast |
Race: (none) | Absorb: Ice | Weak: Flame
The EasyType changes the name to こおりのけもの (氷の獣, Ice Beast). |
|||
121 | しょうかんし | Summoner | Conjuror |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(召喚士) One of only three monsters in the original Japanese versions to drop a Tome of Secret Arts (as the rare item, naturally), it continues to drop them in the EasyType, though at no higher a rate than usual. The English version, in a typical pattern, replaces the rare drop with a duplicate of the semi-rare drop, in this case the Silence (Rune Staff), which is only available from this and two other monsters. The Summoner also has a Healing Staff as its common drop. It's normally useless at this point, though you can use a glitch in Steal to equip it on unlikely characters if you find that amusing. |
|||
122 | ソーサルレディ | Sorcer Lady | Witch |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to まじょ (魔女, Witch). The Sorcer Lady has a Rod as a common drop, which is largely useless, though you can use a glitch in Steal to equip it on unlikely characters if you find that amusing. |
|||
123 | アサルトドアー | Assault Door | TrapDoor |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
124 | トーディウィッチ | Toady Witch | ToadLady |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to かえるつかい (蛙使い, Toad User/Tamer/Trainer). The Toady Witch can potentially drop some very nice items, if you're lucky. The second rarest is a Soma Droplet—and even in the EasyType it's still a Gold Apple, though in the English version it's just a Life (Phoenix Tail)—while the rarest is a Ribbon in all three versions. |
|||
125 | マモン | Mammon | DarkTree |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: Flame
The EasyType changes the name to じゅもくのあくま (樹木の悪魔, Woodland Demon). |
|||
126 | キマイラブレイン | Chimera Brain | Mantcore |
Race: (none) | Absorb: Flame Ice Thunder | Weak: (none)
127 | ルナウィルス | Luna Virus | MoonCell |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
It's understandable, given that they dummy out the items, that the English and EasyType versions change the semi-common Stardust and semi-rare Lunar Curtain to Ethers, matching the common drop. Less understandable is that they also replace the rare Artemis's Arrows with an Ether, considering that this item is not dummied out in either version. |
|||
128 ~ 159 | |||
128 | ゼムスブレス | Zemus Breath | Breath |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
129 | ホワイトムース | White Mousse | Tofu |
Race: Slime | Resist: (none) | Weak: Ice
130 | ブラックプリン | Black Pudding | Pudding |
Race: Slime | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
It's understandable, given that they dummy out the items, that the English and EasyType versions change the semi-common Stardust and semi-rare Lunar Curtain to Ethers, matching the common drop. Less understandable is that they also replace the rare Artemis's Arrows with an Ether, considering that this item is not dummied out in either version. |
|||
131 | ゼムスマインド | Zemus Mind | Mind |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
132 | ミスリルゴーレム | Mithril Golem | Ironman |
Race: Giant | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to ミスリルきょじん (ミスリル巨人, Mithril Giant), and also breaks the theme of its drops (otherwise Mithril Knife, Mithril Shield, Mithril Armor, Mithril Sword) thanks to the Piglet's Bamboo Sword replacing the Mithril Sword in this version. You can also use a glitch in Steal to equip the Mithril Knife on anyone, not that there's much point to it. |
|||
133 | グリーンドラゴン | Green Dragon | Green D. |
Race: Dragon | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
134 | プリンプリンセス | Pudding Princess | PinkPuff |
Race: Boss Slime | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType removes the Boss flag, not to mention raising the encounter rate and the item drop rate. |
|||
135 | アイズ | Eyes | Alert |
Race: Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to けいほうき (警報機, Alarm). One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop. Much better than the English version, which replaces the Alarm in every slot with a Cure1 (Potion). The EasyType replaces only the common drop with a Potion. |
|||
136 | きかいへい | Mecha Soldier | Machine |
Race: Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(機械兵) |
|||
137 | きょじんへい | Giant Soldier | MacGiant |
Race: Giant Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(巨人兵) The Giant Soldier is a potential source of axes, with the Ogre Killer, Poison Axe, and Rune Axe as its semi-common, semi-rare, and rare drops. |
|||
138 | つきのめがみ | Lunar Goddess | Kary |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(月の女神) The Lunar Goddess is both the only monster that can drop a Minerva Bustier (semi-rare) and the only one that can drop Artemis's Bow (rare). The English and EasyType versions also make it the only one to drop Artemis's Arrows, thanks to an inexplicable change that removes them from the drop set shared by the Gloom Wing, Luna Virus, and Black Pudding, though for those monsters the arrows were only a rare drop to begin with. The English and EasyType versions also replace the Lunar Goddess's semi-common Lunar Curtain with another Artemis's Arrow drop, following their usual pattern for dummied items. The arrows are the common item in all versions, which also means Edge can steal them for easy stockpiling. |
|||
139 | モルボル | Malboro | Molbol |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The Malboro is one of only three monsters in the original Japanese version that can drop a Soma Droplet, which is its rare drop (the other two are the Toady Witch and Dark Magician, both of which have a Soma Droplet as the semi-rare drop and a Ribbon as the rare one). As the Soma Droplet and the semi-common Bacchus's Wine are dummied out in the English and EasyType versions, both are replaced with the same item as the semi-rare drop, Yoichi's Arrows. Appropriately, the Malboro's common drop in all three versions is a Panacea (Heal). |
|||
140 | ぎんりゅう | Silver Dragon | Ging-Ryu |
Race: Dragon | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(銀竜) Though the Silver Dragon can drop some rather nice items in the original Japanese version (Stardust, Luminous Curtain, Lunar Curtain, and Silver Apple), the only thing it can drop in the English version is the are-you-kidding-me Cure1 (Potion). The EasyType at least has the decency to use a Tome of Secret Arts for the semi-rare and rare drops, though it, too, replaces the common and semi-common ones with lowly Potions. |
|||
141 | イエロードラゴン | Yellow Dragon | Yellow D |
Race: Dragon | Absorb: Thunder | Weak: (none)
142 | サタナジュニア | Satan Junior | Fiend |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to ベビーデビル (Baby Devil). |
|||
143 | ユカリョーテ | Eukaryote | Juclyote |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType modifies the combat script to alternate between Bio and regular attacks, instead of always attacking. Though the original Japanese version makes these give up Stardust for half their drops (common drop) and Lunar Curtains for the other half (semi-common, semi-rare, and rare), the English version turns them all into Cure2 (High Potion). The EasyType also replaces the common and semi-common drops with High Potions, but uses a Tome of Secret Arts for the semi-rare and rare drops. |
|||
144 | フェイズ | Faze | EvilMask |
Race: Boss Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
Spelling debatable. The EasyType changes the name to グラスフェイス (Glass Face). The Faze is the only source of the Glass Mask (rare drop). The English and EasyType versions replace its common Luminous Curtain with a High Potion, but leave the semi-common X-Potion and semi-rare Elixir unchanged. |
|||
145 | てっきへい | Iron Cavalry | Horseman |
Race: Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType writes the name as てつきへい. Either way, it's still 鉄騎兵. |
|||
146 | まじんへい | Daemon Soldier | RedGiant |
Race: Giant | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
魔人兵. I like "daemon" for 魔人 (majin) even if I'm not entirely sure why. The Daemon Soldier is a potential source of axes, with the Ogre Killer, Poison Axe, and Rune Axe as its semi-common, semi-rare, and rare drops. |
|||
147 | ステイルゴーレム | Steel Golem | Staleman |
Race: Giant | Resist: (none) | Weak: Ice
The EasyType changes the name to てつきょじん (鉄巨人, Iron Giant). One of three monsters that can drop a Giant's Bracer, and unlike the other two, the Steel Golem has it as the semi-common and semi-rare drops as well as the rare one, making it drastically more likely to give one up. It also has an Earth Hammer as a common drop, though normally the hammer is no longer useful except to sell, unless you use a glitch in Steal to equip it on someone. |
|||
148 | アーリマン | Ahriman | FatalEye |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: Projectile
The Ahriman is the only enemy that can drop a Protective Ring, which is unsurprisingly the rare drop. The other three are changed from Eyedrops, Elixir, Gold Hourglass in the original Japanese version to Ether (Ether1), Ether Dry (Ether2), Elixir in the English and EasyType versions. |
|||
149 | ルナザウルス | Lunasaurus | D. Lunar |
Race: Boss Undead Dragon | Resist: (none) | Weak: Flame
The EasyType drastically alters the combat script. Among other things, it makes the creature far more prone to using Flame, and causes it to start using Earthquake and more frequent (but single-targeted) Foul Breath attacks when no other monsters are present. |
|||
150 | サーチャー | Searcher | Searcher |
Race: Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to かんしそうち (監視装置, Surveillance Device). One of thirteen monsters the EasyType modifies to drop a Tome of Secret Arts as often as its common drop. Much better than the English version, which replaces the Alarm in every slot with a Cure1 (Potion). The EasyType replaces only the common drop with a Potion. |
|||
151 | あんこくまどうし | Dark Magician | Warlock |
Race: Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(暗黒魔道士) Like the Toady Witch, the Dark Magician can potentially drop a Soma Droplet (or a Gold Apple in the EasyType, but just a Life (Phoenix Tail) in the English version), or, if you're really lucky, a Ribbon. The semi-common Ether Dry (Ether2) isn't bad either, it's just not in the same league. |
|||
152 | ダークバハムート | Dark Bahamut | Wyvern |
Race: Boss Dragon | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType significantly modifies Dark Bahamut, rewriting the combat script and adding Absorption of Flame, Ice, and Thunder. The most beneficial change is that the initial Megaflare will come after a countdown instead of immediately after combat begins. Also noteworthy is that it changes his script when under Reflect status to Flare, Poison, Flare instead of Flare, Flare, Flare, no action. One more significant alteration is that he'll counter Summon magic with Hurricane (but is it the single-target or multi-target one?) instead of a weaker Megaflare. |
|||
153 | プロカリョーテ | Prokaryote | Procyote |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType modifies the combat script to alternate between Bio and regular attacks, instead of always attacking. Though the original Japanese version makes these give up Stardust for half their drops (common drop) and Lunar Curtains for the other half (semi-common, semi-rare, and rare), the English version turns them all into Cure2 (High Potion). The EasyType also replaces the common and semi-common drops with High Potions, but uses a Tome of Secret Arts for the semi-rare and rare drops. |
|||
154 | タイダリアサン | Tidaliathan | Ogopogo |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
Seems to blend "tidal" with "Leviathan". The EasyType makes Tidaliathan Very weak against Thunder. It also switches around the counterattacks, making Thunder magic prompt Blaze (Blue-White Flame) instead of Whirl, and other summon magic and standard magic provoke Greater Tsunami instead of Blaze. |
|||
155 | ブルードラゴン | Blue Dragon | Blue D. |
Race: Boss Dragon | Absorb: Flame Ice Thunder Dark Holy Projectile | Weak: (none)
The EasyType overhauls the Blue Dragon, removing every absorption except Thunder and making it Very weak against Flame and Ice. The combat script is also changed, using Lightning Flash instead of Snowstorm during regular actions, and Thunder 3 (Thundaga) as a counter to all magic instead of Snowstorm as a counter to Flame magic only. On that note, never try to kill a Blue Dragon with fire in the original version of the game. Though it's one of the game's orneriest enemies, the Blue Dragon does at least have good drops, consisting of a common White Fang (changed to a High Potion (Cure2) in the English and EasyType versions), a semi-common Shuriken, a semi-rare Dragon's Whisker (the only source of this weapon), and a rare Wyvern Spear (the less common of two possible sources). |
|||
156 | きんりゅう | Gold Dragon | King-Ryu |
Race: Dragon | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(金竜) The Gold Dragon's drops are gutted in the English version, going from the original Wrath of Zeus, Wrath of the Gods, Blue Fang, Silver Apple combination to nothing but Cure1 (Potion). The EasyType shows somewhat more sense, keeping the rare Silver Apple and replacing the three more common drops with High Potions. |
|||
157 | らいりゅう | Thunder Dragon | Clapper |
Race: Dragon | Absorb: Thunder | Weak: Projectile
(雷竜) The Thunder Dragon is one of only two enemies that can drop—as the rare item, of course—a Gold Apple. Unless you're playing the English version, in which case all four drops are replaced with lousy Cure1 (Potion). The original version's drops are Wrath of the Gods, Gold Hourglass, Gold Headdress, and Gold Apple, all fairly good items, and even the EasyType has the decency to make the common, semi-common, and semi-rare items X-Potions. Even better, the Summoners that spawn these will keep replacing them, so you can farm them for items with relative ease. |
|||
158 | はくりゅう | White Dragon | Pale Dim |
Race: Boss Dragon | Absorb: Flame Ice Thunder | Weak: (none)
(白竜) The EasyType overhauls the White Dragon, removing every absorption except Ice and making it Very weak against Flame and Thunder. The combat script is also changed, cycling between Battle, Snowstorm, and Hurricane (Maelstrom) instead of attacking for four turns and only then using Maelstrom, and countering summon magic with Entangle (inflicts Paralysis) instead of Earthquake. The other counterattacks are unaffected. |
|||
159 | レッドドラゴン | Red Dragon | Red D. |
Race: Boss Dragon | Absorb: Flame | Weak: Ice
The EasyType rewrites the Red Dragon's combat script, generally making it more aggressive, except, oddly, for reacting to summon magic by using Needle against a monster. Though it's one of the game's orneriest enemies, the Red Dragon does at least have good drops, consisting of a common Red Fang (FireBomb) even in the English and EasyType versions (though this may be nothing more than an oversight), a semi-common Dragon Bracer, a semi-rare Wyvern Spear (the more common of two possible sources), and a rare Crystal Ring (the only source of these). |
|||
160 ~ 191 | |||
160 | ベヒーモス | Behemoth | Behemoth |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
In both the original Japanese version and the English version, the Behemoth can drop a Twisted Headband (Headband), a Power Wrist (Strength), an Empowering Suit (Power), or an Avenger (otherwise only found in a chest), in order from most to least common. The EasyType makes a unique change, removing the Twisted Headband, shifting the Power Wrist and Empowering Suit into the next more common slot, and adding a Silver Apple as the semi-rare drop. Rather peculiar, but not unwelcome. |
|||
161 | ミストドラゴン | Mist Dragon | D.Mist |
Race: Boss | Absorb: Holy | Weak: (none)
162 | オクトマンモス | Octomammoth | Octomamm |
Race: Boss | Absorb: Holy | Weak: Thunder Dark
163 | アントリオン | Antlion | Antlion |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
164 | マザーボム | Mother Bomb | MomBomb |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: Dark
165 | スカルミリョーネ | Scarmiglione | Milon |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
First battle, with zombie minions. |
|||
166 | スカルミリョーネ | Scarmiglione | Milon Z. |
Race: Boss Undead | Absorb: Ice | Weak: Flame Holy Projectile
Second battle, true form. Scarmiglione counters Flame magic with Curse Song and special dialog in the original Japanese version of the game. This counterattack is removed in both the English version and the EasyType. |
|||
167 | ベイガン | Beigan | Baigan |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
168 | みぎうで | Right Arm | RightArm |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
右腕. The name is indented to appear as a subordinate entry under Beigan. |
|||
169 | ひだりうで | Left Arm | Left Arm |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
左腕. The name is indented to appear as a subordinate entry under Beigan. |
|||
170 | カイナッツォ | Cagnazzo | Kainazzo |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: Ice
Cagnazzo's weakness changes to Thunder while charging his tsunami attack, then back to Ice when not. The EasyType writes the name slightly differently as カイナッツオ (the final kana is full-sized). |
|||
171 | ダークエルフ | Dark Elf | Dark Elf |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
Unbeatable version before Gilbert plays through the Whisper Weed. Also uses an alternate, more physical but arguably deadlier, combat script if the party never got the Whisper Weed at all. |
|||
172 | ダークエルフ | Dark Elf | Dark Elf |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Holy
Weakened by Gilbert's tune. |
|||
173 | ドグ | Dogu | Sandy |
Race: Boss Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
174 | マグ | Magu | Cindy |
Race: Boss Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
175 | ラグ | Ragu | Mindy |
Race: Boss Mage | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)

Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Holy
Versus Tella. |
|||
177 | バルバリシア | Barbariccia | Valvalis |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType modifies the dialog, but not the combat script or (lack of) elemental affinities. |
|||
178 | カルコ | Calca | Cal |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType adds the Boss flag to Calca. Given that Brina already has it, this was probably an oversight in the original version. |
|||
179 | カルコブリーナ | Calcabrina | Calbrena |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType gives Calcabrina a weakness to Flame and makes it unable to split back up into Calcas and Brinas. |
|||
180 | ゴルベーザ | Golubaeser | Golbez |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: Flame Holy
With Black Dragon. |

182 | はかせ | Doctor | Dr.Lugae |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
博士, and that's "doctor" in the scholarly sense, not medical. |

183 | バルナバ | Barnabas | Balnab |
Race: Boss Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
184 | ルゲイエ | Lugae | Dr.Lugae |
Race: Boss Machine | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType tweaks his combat script by swapping the order of Laser and Flamethrower, and tacking on an additional turn where he uses Beam twice. |
|||
185 | エブラーナおう | King Eblana | K.Eblan |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
186 | エブラーナおうひ | Queen Eblana | Q.Eblan |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
187 | ルビカンテ | Rubicante | Rubicant |
Race: Boss | Absorb: Flame * | Weak: (none) *
* Rubicante switches between Very weak against Ice and Absorbing Ice during the course of the battle as he opens and closes his cloak. In what is likely an oversight, those changes overwrite his original elemental properties, so he no longer absorbs or even resists Flame afterward. This enemy is used both for the regular battle and for the scripted battle with Edge. In the original Japanese version, Rubicante reacts to summon magic by casting Blizzara on himself. The EasyType and English versions remove this. |

193 | してんのう | Elite Four | Elements |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(四天王) Scarmiglione and Rubicante. The Scarmiglione phase is Undead and Very weak against Flame, but Absorbs all other elements (even Projectile and, confusingly, Holy), while the Rubicante phase is a Mage and Very weak against Ice, but Absorbs all other elements (even Projectile). |
|||
194 | してんのう | Elite Four | Elements |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
(四天王) Cagnazzo and Barbariccia. The Cagnazzo phase is Very weak against Thunder, but Absorbs all other elements (even Projectile), while the Barbariccia phase is weak against Holy (and Thunder, but apparently only because Cagnazzo's weakness isn't cleared properly). The EasyType modifies Barbariccia's behavior slightly, adding an extra turn of Fingertip between two rounds of normal attacks. |
|||
195 | ダークドラゴン | Dark Dragon | Dark Elf |
Race: Dragon | Absorb: Holy | Very weak: Holy
That bizarre mix of elemental defenses means Holy magic (of which none is available at the time) will be absorbed, while Holy physical attacks (like Paladin Cecil's starting sword) will have quadrupled attack power. |
|||
196 | サハギン | Sahagin | WaterHag |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
For Gilbert's solo battle. The EasyType changes the name to すなおとこ (砂男, Sand Man), normally its name for the Desert Sahagin. |

200 | ゼロムス | Zeromus | Zeromus |
Race: Boss | Absorb: Flame Ice Thunder Holy | Weak: (none)
The invincible version, including the scene where everyone praying revitalizes the party. The opponent changes to enemy #201, and the real battle begins, when this one is hit by Dark magic from Paladin Cecil—in other words, when he uses the Crystal. Zeromus has Dark Matter for all drops in the original Japanese version. Though he doesn't actually drop anything, Edge can still steal it. However, the item is simply a novelty and does nothing. The English and EasyType versions replace them with Elixirs. |
|||
201 | ゼロムス | Zeromus | Zeromus |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The final battle. The EasyType does a number of strange things to Zeromus, starting with replacing the graphic (the alternate graphic is seen in some remakes as optional boss Zeromus EG; EG = イージー = easy). Parts of the combat script are also significantly different. For one thing, the script (in both versions) frequently adjusts Zeromus's magic power before using magic. The EasyType consistently uses lower values, reducing the number of hits by up to three, depending on the spell. During the first phase, EasyType Zeromus uses Death Sentence against a single character on his ninth turn after the initial Big Bang, instead of casting Bio on all characters as he does in the original version. He also counters any summon magic used during this phase with Embrace (heals but petrifies) instead of Flare. The second phase is no different from usual, except that he moves on to the third and final phase sooner, once under 17,000 hit points rather than the usual 12,000. EasyType Zeromus begins the third phase by using Death Sentence on all characters. He then goes into the usual pattern of casting Meteor every other turn. Unlike his other attacks, this is not weakened in the EasyType, largely because it only gets one hit to begin with—it can't get any weaker. Death Sentence may very well be a larger problem, though; unless you have a tactic for dealing with it, you'll need to finish him off quickly. Zeromus has Dark Matter for all drops in the original Japanese version. Though he doesn't actually drop anything, Edge can still steal it. However, the item is simply a novelty and does nothing. The English and EasyType versions replace them with Elixirs. |

209 | ズー | Zuu | Raven |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Very weak: Thunder
For the scripted battle in the introduction only. The EasyType changes the name to ヘルコンドル (Hell Condor), as it does for the standard Zuu. |

210 | ブリーナ | Brina | Brena |
Race: Boss | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
211 | スカルナント | Scar[miglione] [Reve]nant | Ghast |
Race: Undead | Immune: Dark | Weak: Flame Holy
The EasyType changes the name to スカルナイト (Skull Knight), replacing the ン (n) with an イ (i). Although the original name could just be a typo, kahran042 has pointed out a more likely explanation. This particular enemy only appears in the first battle against Scarmiglione (スカルミリョーネ), so the スカル (SUKARU) probably stands for that rather than meaning "skull". Similarly, a search for other things with ナント (NANTO) in them on this page finds only the Revenant (レブナント), another zombie-type enemy that also appears on Ordeal Mountain and even uses the same palette as this monster. Given all that, I consider it highly likely that the name just comes from smashing Scarmiglione and Revenant together. |

The combat script adds further messages after he scans himself, indicating that he's also weak against all-nighters, weak against girls with glasses, and just plain weak. |

Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
223 | ミステレグ | Mysteregg | Egg |
Race: (none) | Resist: (none) | Weak: (none)
The EasyType changes the name to まもののたまご (魔物の卵, Monster Egg). Mystereggs hatch into other monsters after taking damage, but remain dormant until then. Other than name and appearance, they're whatever monster they hatch into all along, and have the corresponding defenses, items to steal, and so on. Also, it turns out that hatching is functionally a monster skill used as a counterattack. If the monster is vulnerable to Pig or Toad status, applying one of those will disable the skill, preventing it from hatching and leaving it helpless. Yet another unexpected use for that Transformation Rod! |
