In addition to the effects described below, it seems that many status ailments temporarily force-equip special "weapons" to cause their graphical changes. Since changing weapons ends the effect of Saber spells, these status ailments will cancel Saber magic as a side effect.


せんとうふのう Incapacitated UNCONSCIOUS

Effects: Can't interact with anything, counted as dead, and banned from cannon travel. Incapacitated enemies are just plain dead.

Symptoms: Ghostly with a cartoonish reaper overhead.

Cause with: Damage in excess of current hit points. There are no instant-death skills or spells in this game.

Remove with: Revive spell, Angel's Chalice. Royal Jelly can also restore health and remove the status as long as it's used before the character becomes untargetable with normal items (the Round Drop and Omnom Chocolate will simply fail on a character with 0 hit points).

Prevention: Avoid damage.

Message when inflicted:

[name]に死神がついた A reaper clung to [name]. [name] sees the reaper!

ひだるま Ablaze ENGULFED

Effects: Can't move or act, and health drops continuously. Ablaze also removes Ballooned, Barrelled, and Poisoned status.

Given that Ablaze effectively combines Ballooned and Poisoned into a single status ailment, it makes sense that it overrides both of them.

Symptoms: On fire, ticking noise as health drops.

Cause with: Blaze Wall spell or a weapon enchanted with Flame Saber.

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass. The Petrified, Snowman, Moogled, and Transformed statuses also remove Ablaze. Additionally, this status has a timer (shared with Poisoned) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: Mini Devil Ring

Message when inflicted:

[name]は火だるまに! [name] was set ablaze! [name]'s engulfed!

もうどく Deadly Poison POISONED

For convenience, I'll refer to this as "Poisoned" normally.

Effects: Health drops continuously. Poisoned also removes Barrelled status.

Symptoms: Purple tinge, ticking noise as health drops.

Cause with: Griffin Claws, Bagh Nakh

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass. The Petrified, Snowman, Ablaze, Moogled, and Transformed statuses also remove Poisoned. Additionally, this status has a timer (shared with Ablaze) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: Rose Leotard, Spirit Bracelet, Cobra Bracelet, Ochu Ring

Message when inflicted:

[name]は毒をうけた! [name] was poisoned! [name]'s poisoned!

モーグリ Moogle MOOGLED!

Effects: Can't attack or use magic. Moogle also removes Ballooned, Barrelled, Transformed, Poisoned, and Ablaze status.

Symptoms: Looks like a Moogle.

Cause with: Moogle Belt (on allies), one possible effect of Lunatic spell. However, all enemies are immune to Moogle status.

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass, Moogle Belt. Additionally, this status has a timer (shared with Transformed) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: Viledar Ring

Message when inflicted:

[name]はモーグリに変身 [name] transformed into a Moogle. [name]'s moogled!

へんしん Transformed TRANSFORMED

Effects: Transformed into a Rabbie, Myconid, Bud Flower, Goblin, Green Slime, Sahagin, Molebear, or Bumpkin Bomb (selected at random). Transformed also removes Heavy, Tangled, Confused, Ballooned, Barrelled, Poisoned, and Ablaze status.

Symptoms: Has the appearance, attack methods, sound effects, behavior, and strength of the monster transformed into.

Cause with: Body Change spell, one possible effect of Lunatic spell

Remove with: Remedy spell, (Puipui grass). The Petrified, Snowman, Moogled, and Munchkin statuses also remove Transformed. Additionally, this status has a timer (shared with Moogle) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: Player characters are automatically immune.

Message when inflicted:

[name]は変身した [name] transformed. [name]'s transformed!

たるかぶり Wearing Barrel BARRELLED

For convenience, I'll refer to this as "Barrelled" normally.

Effects: Immune to physical damage, but moves slowly and cannot attack or run without removing the status.

Symptoms: Wearing a barrel.

Cause with: Barrel (on ally). All enemies are immune anyway.

Remove with: Attemping to attack or run. The Petrified, Snowman, Asleep, Tangled, Ablaze, Poisoned, Moogled, and Transformed statuses also remove Barrelled.

Prevention: Not using Barrels.

Message when inflicted:

[name]はたるをかぶった [name] wore a barrel. [name]'s barreled!

チビッコ Munchkin SHRUNK

There are a number of different ways チビッコ could be translated, but it ought to sound cutesy.

Effects: Offense and defense are crippled. Munchkin also removes Transformed status, though that's normally not meaningful.

Symptoms: Tiny.

Cause with: Munchkin Hammer (on allies), one possible effect of Lunatic spell. However, all enemies are immune to Munchkin status.

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass, Munchkin Hammer. This is one of the few status effects that will not wear off on its own.

Prevention: Spirit Bracelet

Message when inflicted:

[name]はチビッコになった [name] became a munchkin. [name]'s pygmized!

ふーせん Ballooned BALLOONED

Effects: Can't move or act. Ballooned also removes Barrelled status.

Symptoms: Tethered to a large balloon.

Cause with: Imp's Pike, Trident, Mini Devil's Harpoon, Balloon spell

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass. The Petrified, Snowman, Ablaze, Moogled, and Transformed statuses also remove Ballooned. Additionally, this status has a timer (shared with Confused) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: Spirit Bracelet

Message when inflicted:

[name]はぼーっとしてる [name] is spacing out. [name]'s spaced out!

ふくめん Masked DIZZY

A curious name. For convenience, I'll refer to this as "Confused" normally.

Effects: Can't use magic, directions are reversed.

Symptoms: Other than reversed movement, no obvious symptoms.

Possibly this status was once meant to have a special appearance, like Moogle, Munchkin, Petrified, and Snowman... perhaps something with a mask?

Cause with: Halberd, Greatbow, Wing Bow, Silence spell, one possible effect of Lunatic spell

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass. The Transformed status also removes Confused. Additionally, this status has a timer (shared with Ballooned) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: Spirit Bracelet

Message when inflicted:

[name]はこんらんした! [name] was confused! [name]'s confused!

せきか Petrified PETRIFIED

Effects: Can't move or act. Petrified also removes Heavy, Tangled, Asleep, Snowman, Ballooned, Barrelled, Poisoned, Ablaze, and Transformed status. Additionally, it halves current hit points when applied.

Symptoms: Enemies turn grayscale. Player characters turn into statues.

Cause with: A weapon enchanted with Stone Saber

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass. Additionally, this status has a timer (shared with Snowman, Asleep, Tangled, and Heavy) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: Cockatrice Helm, Gold Bracelet, Demon Ring

Message when inflicted:

[name]は石になった! [name] turned to stone! [name]'s petrified!

ゆきだるま Snowman FROZEN

Effects: Can't move or act, but in exchange, cannot be damaged. Snowman also removes Heavy, Tangled, Asleep, Ballooned, Barrelled, Poisoned, Ablaze, and Transformed statuses.

Symptoms: Is a snowman.

Cause with: A weapon enchanted with Ice Saber

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass. The Petrified status also removes Snowman. Additionally, this status has a timer (shared with Petrified, Asleep, Tangled, and Heavy) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: Snowman Ring, Mini Devil Ring

Message when inflicted:

[name]はゆきだるまに [name] became a snowman. [name]'s frostied!

ねむり Asleep SLEEPING

Effects: Can't move or act. Asleep also removes Heavy, Tangled, and Barrelled status. Furthermore, base critical hit rate is reportedly doubled when the target is Asleep. However, some sleeping enemies use an animation frame that is immune to weapon damage.

Symptoms: Lying down on the job.

Cause with: Moogle Claws, Coral Pike, Sleep Flower spell, one possible effect of Lunatic spell

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass. The Petrified and Snowman statuses also remove Asleep, as does getting hit. Additionally, this status has a timer (shared with Petrified, Snowman, Tangled, and Heavy) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: Rose Leotard, Ochu Ring

Message when inflicted:

[name]は気を失った [name] passed out. [name]'s unconscious!

からみつき Tangled TANGLED UP

This status effect appears to be unused, and I haven't yet managed to find any way to get it to activate even by modifying memory.

Effects: Based on the associated message, can't move. Tangled also reportedly removes Heavy and Barrelled status.

Symptoms: ?

Cause with: (none)

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass (presumably). The Petrified, Snowman, Asleep, and Transformed statuses also reportedly remove Tangled. Additionally, this status reportedly has a timer (shared with Petrified, Snowman, Asleep, and Heavy) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: (none)

Message when inflicted:

[name]はうごけない! [name] can't move! [name] can't move!

おもり Heavy SLOWED DOWN

Effects: Slowed movement.

Symptoms: Moves slowly.

Cause with: Black Whip, Hammer Flail, Iron Boomerang, Speed Down spell

Remove with: Remedy spell, Puipui grass. The Petrified, Snowman, Asleep, Tangled, and Transformed statuses also remove Heavy. Additionally, this status has a timer (shared with Petrified, Snowman, Asleep, and Tangled) and will wear off when the timer expires.

Prevention: Golem Ring, Ninja's Vambrace

Message when inflicted:

[name]はのろくなった [name] became sluggish. [name]'s tangled!

あおむけ Face-Up DAMAGED

The name is found in the game data, but never appears. This appears to be an internal status used for hit recovery.
