After covering METHOD_IMPLANTA/. I just had to do the rest of the songs relating to Rhaplanca. A number of songs relating specifically to Infel Phira and Metafalica contain parts of the tale of a girl named Rhaplanca. Neither she nor the great tree Implanta she attempts to grow nor her companion Maoh nor even the tale itself are mentioned anywhere in the game text that I'm aware of, yet the pieces of her story are highly relevant both to the songs they appear in and to the points in the plot at which these songs are sung. The part in this song appears to be the second of five, with the previous portion in EXEC_METAFALICA/. and the next (and most closely related) portion in METHOD_IMPLANTA/.

Another way of looking at the story is that the original Metafalica and this song represent the initial attempt at land creation. While well-intentioned, the both the efforts to create land and Rhaplanca's efforts to grow the tree are doomed to failure. The simply isn't enough energy to be had for the creaton to work, just as Rhaplanca can't do enough on her own to make the tree grow. Something more is needed.

Like Implanta, Hibernation demonstrates that you can tell a good deal about the intent of a song just by listening to it, even if you can't understand a word. In constrast to the upbeat and hopeful tone of Implanta, Hibernation is slow and sorrowful, with parts that sound downright sinister. You'll find that the lyrics reflect the same concept. Whereas in Implanta, Maoh helps Rhaplanca rekindle her hope, Hibernation chronicles her fall into despair. It's also repetitve and abnormally long for one of these songs.

Sections with Hymmnos lyrics are listed with the Hymmnos lyrics in the center column (which I always use for pronunciation) and the given Japanese equivalents in the left column in this color to indicate that the Japanese phrases are not the actual lyrics.

To further complicate things, most of the song has multiple parts singing different things at the same time. I'm preceding these parts with "(A:)" and so on, based on the notation used in the booklet. Keep in mind that parts continue into the same part, not into whatever other parts happens to be sung simultaneously.

The Hymmnos

Keep in mind that I'm working from a Japanese description of how the language works and Japanese descriptions of the terms. Translations of translations always tend to suffer somewhat in quality....

The font is available from the Hymmno Server, where most of my information on Hymmnos comes from. The site is mostly in Japanese, but the download link itself is in English. If you don't have the font, the headings will simply appear as large Latin text.

"Was yea ra enne ar ciel", glossed as 世界に願いを ("A wish for the world"). Pronunciation written in kana as ワス イェア ラ エニェ アル シェール (wasu yea ra enye aru sheeru).

Was = very intensely / yea = happy / ra = want to be like this
enne = prayer, desire (positive meaning) / ar = the / ciel = sky, (loose usage) world

The first question here, and for the whole song, is whose emotions these are. Since a story it being told, are they the feelings of the storyteller, or those of the characters in the story? I don't have an answer, but keep that in mind.

Normally I would suspect "enne ar ciel" of being a compound noun, but it makes more sense for the desire to be directed at the world than for the two nouns to connect directly. Note that both the Hymmnos and the Japanese equivalent omit any verb.

My best guess at a literal translation is, "A wish for the world (with content intensely happy feelings)."

"Was yea ra crushue anw yehah dornpica, rhaplanca", glossed as 幸せの木の実を紡ぐ、ラプランカ ("Rhaplanca, who crafts seeds of bliss"). Pronunciation written in kana as ワス イェア ラ クルシューエ アンワ イェハー ドゥルンピカ ラプランカ (wasu yea ra kurushuue anwa yehaa durunpika rapuranka).

The final Rhaplanca seems to function as a subject, although this is not standard Hymmnos grammar (it's moderately common in Japanese grammar, though). "Seed" is a loose interpretation of "dornpica" as it is a loose interpretation of the Japanese 木の実.

Long sentences can get messy. Let's break it down. "crushue diasee rhaplanca dornpica" = the seeds the god-child Rhaplanca craft. I'm not sure if "god-child" is meant in a figurative sense, with Rhaplanca as a priestess of some sort, or a literal sense, as in she's actually the child of a god. I doubt it's the general "we are all children of God" sense. "fulual 1 dornpica art 1 walasye enne" = grant by one seed one human wish.

My best guess at a literal translation is, "With each seed the god-child Rhaplanca crafts, one human wish comes true (with content intensely happy feelings)."

Very similar to an above sentence, but with some words omitted. Also, Hymmnos is normally first-person, but it's clear that we're telling a story here.

Hymmnos make little distinction between parts of speech. To make sense, "warma" has to be an adverb here.

The "en" effectively makes this two sentences in one, as English "and" often does. Note that Hymmnos lacks the concept of temporal verb tenses, so there is no way of determining whether this first night should be considered past, present, or future.
