だんご大家族 (The Great Big Dango Family)

The dango is a type of small Japanese dumpling, made of rice flour and often served with several on a skewer.

It's probably more accurate to translate 大家族 (daikazoku) as "extended family", but it doesn't work as well stylistically.

1 月見だんご (tsukimi dango) are eaten during a festival honoring the autumn moon.

2 Literally, "squinting their eyes," but it's idiomatic and refers to the smiling face ^_^.

3 Rather than the Western concept of a man in the moon, Asian tradition tensds to see a rabbit on the moon, and it's this rabbit that the song references. I've always thought it looked more like a rabbit than a face myself, but that's beside the point.
