わたしの恋はホッチキス [My Love is a Stapler]

Aside from the odd meaning of the title, the term ホッチキス is a peculiar one. It's derived from the name Hotchkiss, which, if it means anything at all to an English speaker, is most likely to be associated with a type of machine gun once manufactured by a former French arms and automotive company of the same name. It's unclear how the term came to be associated with staplers at all in Japan (and Korea), let alone how it ended up being the standard generic term for a stapler. That aside, there's a certain sort of nerdy quality to the song. Reams of notes stapled together? A formula to calculate being in love?

I'll take the glittering wishes,
and the wearying worries too,
yes, and staple them together.
I wasn't too serious about this at first,
but then it heated up before I knew it,
and now the staples just won't go all the way through.
