なのです☆

Hanyuu character song! Spoilers galore! Don't read any more if you're not well into the answer arcs! You ought to, at the very least, know who Hanyuu is.

More lyrical dissonance. Here we have a happy, cheerful song with lyrics that basically amount to moping about being powerless to change anything. Na no desu.

Speaking of which, なのです (na no desu) is one of those things that just doesn't translate, particularly when someone overuses it to the point of meaninglessness, as Hanyuu does (and Rika when she's acting childish). I've seen claims that it translates cleanly to "it is so", and while that's not completely without merit, it's simply not true. I have a more detailed description elsewhere, but it basically amounts to indicating an explanatory mode of speech. Except, as mentioned before, when someone—like Hanyuu—overuses it to the point that it no longer really means anything at all. I've chosen to leave it as-is here for that reason.

You should already know all this but just to review... Hanyuu is a character invisible, intangible, and (usually) inaudible to everyone except Rika, and the only other one aware of the multiple cycles of June 1983. She gets flustered easily, tending to lapse into moaning au au when upset. She loves sweets and can't stand spicy food—problematic for her when Rika gets annoyed at her and decides to eat kimchi, a spicy Korean food, in retaliation, since Hanyuu is linked to her and shares her senses. Hanyuu also happens to be the true identity of the village's patron deity, who is widely held to have cursed the victims in a series of mysterious deaths and disappearances. However, she doesn't seem to have the ability to curse anyone, much less the inclination, and is understandably upset at being blamed. On the contrary, when people go psychotic from the "curse", she has a tendency to follow them around, apologizing profusely for not being able to help. Interestingly, many of them hear her or sense her presence on and off—this is likely the real reason for various claims of being followed or hearing footsteps, and also for the remarkable frequency with which long strings of "I'm sorry" keep coming up. Rena even specifically mentions someone standing by her bedside, apologizing over and over. Unfortunately, this does more to feed their paranoia than anything else.

I've broken up a few of the long lines out of necessity to fit the column widths. This song also has a lot of なのです thrown in that isn't officially in the lyrics, so I've noted those as well.

1 Literally, it's a formal "I am called Hanyuu," but と申します (to moushimasu) is almost exclusively used when introducing yourself.

2 Showa 58, using the Japanese era to specify the year, is AD 1983 in the western Anno Domini system. Japan typically uses Western years in everyday life, but often retains the Japanese era year system for official paperwork, for instance. The series repeatedly refers to the year as Showa 58, perhaps to be suggestive of an official report on the massive disaster that happens every loop.
